Downloading an Instagram Reel with Linkrium takes four main actions: create your Linkrium account, connect Instagram, send the Reel to yourself, and download it from the synchronized conversation. You do not need to copy the Reel into a separate downloader website.
This guide covers the complete workflow and the checks to make if the video does not appear immediately.
Quick answer#
Create or sign in to your Linkrium account, open Settings → Channels, and connect the Instagram account you control. In Instagram, open the Reel, select Share, and send it to your own Instagram username. Return to Linkrium, open your conversation with yourself, select the Reel, and choose Download attachment.
The saved file usually appears in your browser's Downloads folder. The exact location depends on your browser and device settings.
Before you start#
You need:
- a Linkrium account;
- access to the Instagram account you want to connect;
- a supported, up-to-date web browser;
- a Reel that the connected Instagram account can view; and
- permission to save and use the video.
Linkrium currently lists Instagram as an available connection. Provider changes, expired sessions, attachment limits, and the privacy of the original Reel can still affect whether media synchronizes.
1. Create your Linkrium account#
Open Linkrium and select Start free or Get started free. Enter the requested details and complete any account-verification step shown on screen. Sign in to reach your Linkrium workspace.
If you already have an account, sign in and continue with the Instagram connection.
2. Connect Instagram to Linkrium#
In Linkrium:
- Open Settings.
- Select Channels.
- Find Instagram and choose the connection action.
- Follow the browser-session handoff shown in the dialog.
- Wait until Linkrium confirms that Instagram is connected.
The connection flow may offer the Linkrium Connector or a manual browser-session method. Follow the current on-screen instructions and connect only an account you own. Linkrium does not need you to send your Instagram password in a message or to a third-party downloader.
Before continuing, check that the Instagram username shown in Linkrium is the same account you will use in the next step.
3. Send the Instagram Reel to yourself#
Open Instagram on your phone or in a browser, then:
- Find the Reel you want to save.
- Select the Share button, usually shown as a paper-airplane icon.
- Search for your own Instagram username.
- Select your account and choose Send.
Sending the Reel to yourself places it in an Instagram conversation associated with the connected account. Linkrium can then synchronize that conversation and the media Instagram makes available through it.
Make sure you select your own account—not another profile with a similar display name. Checking the exact @username prevents the Reel from being sent to the wrong person.
4. Open the Reel in Linkrium#
Return to your Linkrium inbox and find the conversation with your own Instagram account. Open the newest message and verify that it contains the correct Reel.
If the message is not visible yet, wait briefly and refresh the inbox once. Repeatedly sending the same Reel can create duplicates without solving a temporary synchronization delay.
5. Download the Reel#
Select the Reel or its media preview in the conversation. When the attachment opens, choose Download attachment. Your browser will either save the video automatically or ask you to select a destination.
After the download finishes, open the saved file and check that the picture and audio play correctly before deleting the message or disconnecting Instagram.
Find the downloaded file#
On a computer, open your browser's download list or the system Downloads folder. On iPhone, check the Files app and the download location configured for Safari or your other browser. On Android, check Downloads, Files, or your browser's download manager.
If the browser asks for permission to download a file, approve the request only after confirming that you are still on Linkrium and opening the expected Reel.
Troubleshoot a missing Reel or download button#
Confirm the connected account#
Open Settings → Channels and verify that Instagram is connected. If you use multiple Instagram profiles, confirm that the connected username matches the recipient of the self-message.
Check the original Reel#
Return to Instagram and confirm that the Reel still plays for the connected account. A deleted Reel, a changed audience, a private account, regional restrictions, or unavailable audio can affect the synchronized result.
Allow synchronization to finish#
Refresh Linkrium after a short wait. If other new Instagram messages are also missing, inspect the channel status before sending more copies.
Reconnect only when necessary#
If Linkrium reports that the Instagram session has expired or disconnected, follow the connection flow again. Do not paste session information into an unrelated website or send it to another person.
Check browser downloads#
If selecting Download attachment appears to do nothing, inspect the browser's download panel and permissions. A pop-up blocker, download restriction, full device storage, or security setting may have stopped the file from being saved.
Download and reuse Reels responsibly#
Use this workflow for Reels you created or have permission to save. A Download button gives you a copy of the available file; it does not transfer copyright, music rights, privacy rights, or permission to publish it elsewhere.
Ask the creator before reposting or editing their Reel. For commercial use, also confirm that you have the necessary rights to the video, music, voice, branding, and people shown in it. Instagram notes that music from its licensed library is generally intended for personal, non-commercial use.
Once those checks are complete, the repeatable workflow is simple: send the Reel to yourself on Instagram, open the synchronized self-conversation in Linkrium, and download the attachment.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a Linkrium account to download an Instagram Reel this way?
Yes. You need to sign in to Linkrium and connect the Instagram account that receives the Reel so the conversation and its available media can synchronize with your inbox.
Why does the Instagram Reel not appear in Linkrium?
Confirm that you sent it to the same Instagram account connected to Linkrium, refresh the inbox, and check the connection status. Synchronization delays, expired authorization, privacy restrictions, or an unavailable original Reel can prevent it from appearing.
Where does Linkrium save a downloaded Reel?
Your browser controls the destination. It normally saves the video in the Downloads folder, but a phone may place it in Files, Downloads, or another location selected by the browser.
Can I download and repost any Instagram Reel?
Downloading a file does not grant permission to reuse it. Save only content you own or have permission to download, and obtain the creator's approval before reposting, editing, or using it commercially.
